MY LITTLE GIRL - Pat Obilor

For that beautiful moment of laughter you came to earth, we celebrate you

For the times when you have to bear the whole burden of your family and stop school, we celebrate you

For the days when you have to hawk and trade and work under the rain and the scorching sun, we celebrate you
My little girl, we are sorry mostly too!

For your innocent and kind nature now polluted with societal hardness, we are sorry

For every time you had to cry and pray for the things you wish for, we are sorry

For the days when your father thinks you don’t need education cos you will end up in kitchen, we are sorry

We are sorry marrying you off at a time when you need to be in your mother’s bosom

We are sorry for making you go through childbearing when you are just a child!

We are sorry for letting that giant earth invade your essence

For every time you are hungry, bored, felt inferior, and no one was there, we are sorry

For the times when you had to fetch water under the rain, shivering! We are sorry

For being trafficked into prostitution and domestic slavery, we are sorry

For not being able to produce the missing Chibok girls, we are sorry

For the moments you stop to wonder if you can swap your family, we are sorry

For the times when you had to do the things you ought not to because you felt responsible for others, we are sorry

For every emotionally, physical and mental pain you have nursed on your own, we are sorry

You deserve peace and tranquility from the ones you love

You deserve proper education and mentorship

You deserve to know your own purpose

So forget those days, better days are here…
…This piece is dedicated to every African woman who once was a little girl and to every girl child out there still going through it…

It is days like these that reminds and reawaken us of the reason why you deserve everything

For all you do, your reward is not in heaven, it is here on earth.

This and more are part of what we stand for at Mogulettes Africa @mogulettesmag and we are coming for our girls…

With other girl-child advocates in Africa and across nations, we are coming to give you a world where you can play safe wearing your panties, sleep with your two eyes closed, choose your own Man when you are ready and have a normal growth experience devoid of family or societal pressure!

Happy Girl-child day!
